City Human Settlements’ Portfolio Committee visits key City housing project

Members of the City’s Human Settlements’ Portfolio Committee, including its Chairperson, Councillor Albert Ntsodo, visited the City‘s Gugulethu Infill housing project to check on progress.
‘The Human Settlements Portfolio Committee checked on the important work being done, as well as to engage with the community members. The Portfolio Committee plays a crucial role in identifying where improvements can be made as well as to engage with residents about any concerns that they may have.
‘We are particularly pleased with the progress and improvements being made at the Gugulethu Infill project which experienced a number of challenges over recent years. Since the City recently completely took over this project, consistent progress is being made and many rightful beneficiaries are moving into their homes. The Human Settlements Portfolio Committee thanks the communities for their ongoing support and we thank all City teams for their work on these important projects which will benefit our communities for many years,’ said Councillor Ntsodo.
The City’s Human Settlements housing delivery across the metro
The City’s Human Settlements budget is about R7,6 billion for the next three years and focuses on public housing upgrades, affordable housing in well-located areas, subsidy housing, and a drive to transfer City rental units to tenants and the upgrading of informal settlements.
Register on the Housing Needs Register
The City encourages residents to register on the Housing Needs Register and if they are already registered, to make sure that personal details are updated regularly. This could include a change in address or telephone number, marital status and number of dependants, among others. The City will contact qualifying beneficiaries as soon as housing opportunities become available and needs the correct details to do so.
